The Shared Maxi Skirt

The best thing about sharing a wardrobe with someone is that it means you have twice the clothing with half the budget!

I bought this skirt on an overseas trip many years ago at a massive sale event and then only wore it occasionally. Suddenly in the last 12 months it has become my new obsession and part of my fallback outfit for nearly any event. I wore this outfit to the local business awards earlier this year when I attended with my sister. She loved the outfit so much she borrowed it and wore it to a Melbourne Spring Fashion Week event. I have always loved sunray-pleated skirts although I usually find that they don’t suit me. The only other item I own with sunray pleats is my wedding gown. Most people are surprised when I tell them my wedding gown is pleated as it’s not a common style. Pleated skirts seem to be fairly common these days and I recently found a gorgeous pleated leather skirt but knowing that it wouldn’t suit me, I phoned my sister and convinced her she must buy it – which she did, and you can see it here and here.

The reason I can wear this particular pleated skirt is because of its quality. While the fabric is heavy, it’s also paper thin and almost translucent in the light, which means that it falls nicely without being bulky. While on holidays recently I attempted to find the same skirt in a different colour but had no luck. Now that it’s spring/summer I was hoping to find something of similar quality in white or cream. Is anyone else on the hunt for an item ready for the new season?

I suppose if I can’t find some staple wardrobe items for this season I can always just make a trip to my sisters wardrobe..
